When his mother was diagnosed with multiple myeloma last December, Mike Hogentogler decided that if she was going to battle this disease, he was going to fight right alongside her. Before his mother's diagnosis, Mike wasn't really a runner, but he took on the challenge of running the Chicago Marathon as a way to help his mom. His wife Kate was inspired to enter the marathon with him, and when they reached out to their friends in the donation process, they were met with an overwhelming amount of support; 8 of their friends joined their team, all first time marathoners!!! Now, joining forces as a team of 10 friends, "Team Hoagie" is working to raise money and awareness together!"Just as my mom continues to fight each day, [we] have taken up the fight to raise money," Mike says. Though the last seven months have been difficult for him and his mother, Mike remains confident. "We know she'll knock this into remission for a very long time."
Now Mike, Kate and their 8 friends are working to raise money and awareness to help advance multiple myeloma research that they are confident will help patients like Mike's mom. "She is the strongest person I know," says Kate, "and we are raising money to hopefully lead to a cure!"Click here to check out the rest of the Team Hoagie on their BLOG!
